More than an organization — a home.
DIAZ is a general nature-lovers' organization based in Malang, open to people from every walk of life — students, workers, entrepreneurs, and civil servants alike.
The organization was formally founded on 13 September 1975, following the first pataka expedition to Kembar II Peak on Mount Arjuno. Since 2011 it has been a legally registered association.

Specializations
Mountaineering is not treated as a specialization because it is the baseline skill every member acquires during basic training.
Caving / Speleology
Vertical and horizontal cave exploration, including conservation surveys of the South Malang karst region.
Whitewater sports (ORAD)
Rafting and river boarding. DIAZ members competed as rafting athletes at the 2025 East Java Provincial Games.
Rock / Wall Climbing
Natural rock and artificial wall climbing, including Single Rope Technique and rappelling.
Scuba Diving
The newest specialization. Used for underwater conservation and the 2025 seabed flag ceremony at Pasir Putih, Situbondo.
Search and Rescue
Search and rescue across difficult terrain, including the emergency response to the 2021 Mount Semeru eruption.
Conservation
Tree planting, river-basin surveys, coral reef rehabilitation, and environmental education.

DIAZ formally founded in Malang
The organization was formally founded after the first pataka expedition to Kembar II Peak on Mount Arjuno. The original pataka read “DIAZ Expedition & Mountaineer ASSCTN” and was carried by the group remembered as “the thirteen”.
1977
First statutes and household rules adopted
Adopted in Malang at 14:00 local time by a drafting team led by Eddy Purwanto (D.13933). These rules established the Javan Hawk-Eagle, Compass Shield, and Peg emblem, along with the yellow 125 x 90 cm flag.
2011
Incorporated by notarial deed No. 13
Executed before notary Vivit Novitasari, S.H. with twelve signatories, then registered with the Malang District Court registry under No. 25/APR/2011 on 25 April 2011.
2025
Underwater flag ceremony at Pasir Putih, Situbondo
Dedicated to Indonesia's 80th Independence Day and the organization's 50th anniversary. Four teams of seven to eight divers were deployed: a flag-raising ceremony team, an organizational pataka team, a 50th Anniversary banner team, and a support team.
