The meaning of “DIAZ”
The official position and the theories in circulation.
Under the statutes as amended in 1998: “DIAZ is DIAZ itself; it has no meaning, expansion, or other interpretation.” The ruling was adopted to avoid claims that cannot be substantiated.
Bartholomeus Diaz
Taken from the Portuguese navigator who rounded the Cape of Good Hope in 1488 — fitting for an organization whose tagline names it as explorers.

An acronym of Expedition Association
Formed from expe-DI-tion AS-sociation, since the ending AZ is still pronounced AS.
Evidence: The original 1975 pataka reads “DIAZ Expedition & Mountaineer ASSCTN”, reinforced by the statutes' cover title “Expedition and Mountaineer Association”.
“DIantara kita Adalah Sama”
Indonesian for “among us we are equal” — a family whose members respect one another regardless of background.

The name of a prehistoric eagle
